Autumn is the season of transitions: cold in the morning, mild at noon, damp in the evening. Horses need a little more attention now.
Accompany the coat change
In autumn the winter coat grows. Brushing regularly keeps the skin healthy and removes dust. If your horse sweats a lot, plan enough time to dry afterwards.
Legs and hooves
Muddy ground challenges the hooves. Check them daily, pick them out and care for them as needed. In wet weather also look at the pasterns and where boots lie, so nothing rubs.
Care for leather
Moisture is hard on leather. Clean saddle and bridle more often and condition them before the cold season starts. A short guide is in our leather article.
Do not forget light
When it gets dark early, reflectors and a good barn light provide safety.
