Spurs and Stirrups: Safety First

Spurs and Stirrups: Safety First

Spurs and stirrups are small, but they help decide how you sit in the saddle and how finely your aids arrive.

Spurs

Spurs are a refinement tool, not a drive. Choose them to suit your horse and your skill. Round, shorter spurs act more gently than long, pointed ones. The spur straps should sit comfortably and securely, soft enough not to rub.

Stirrups

Wooden stirrups in bell shape, for example from the FG Collection by Partrade, look classic in western riding and sit pleasantly under the foot. For children and teens there are aluminium stirrups with safety features so you do not get caught in an emergency.

Maintenance

Check straps, seams and buckles regularly. Anything that looks brittle is better replaced early. More about Partrade and our spurs and spur straps are here.
