Fly Season: How Your Horse Gets Through Summer Relaxed

Fly Season: How Your Horse Gets Through Summer Relaxed

You know the scene: your horse stands at the fence swishing its tail, shaking its head and not finding any peace. Fly season is a test of patience for horse and human. A few habits help.

Order in the barn

Flies love manure and moisture. Mucking out regularly, dry bedding and covered feed leftovers take away their wish to settle.

Protection on the horse

Fly masks protect eyes and ears, fly sheets the body. Fly spray helps in addition, but only works for a while and has to be repeated depending on the product. Try new products on a small spot first to rule out intolerance.

Adjust turnout times

Flies are often especially active in the morning and evening, horseflies sometimes in the midday heat. If you can, provide shady spots and plan turnout so your horse is bothered as little as possible.

In our stable and pasture world you will find what helps you and your horse through summer.
